How to Transfer Your Domain from GoDaddy to Namecheap
GoDaddy has been a hot topic in the web community in the last few days over their support of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). This interview with the GoDaddy CEO added fuel to the fire of the Reddit backlash against GoDaddy’s support of SOPA. Reddit has spurred a strong boycott against GoDaddy, and many sites (including Wikipedia) are transferring their domains and/or hosting services to other platforms.
I transferred mine to Namecheap. Their site offers instructions on how to make a domain transfer from GoDaddy.
First, you need to unlock your domain and email the authorization code from your GoDaddy Domain Manager.
Once you do that, order your domain transfer from Namecheap.
Apply the coupon code ‘SOPASucks’ to save a dollar, and the total should be around $7.18. NOTE: You will not lose any years of registration. I had 9 years with GoDaddy, and now I have 10 years with Namecheap (the $7.18 goes towards the additional year).
After you order the transfer, visit the Namecheap Domain Transfer Status page and click your domain, then enter in the code you received in your email from GoDaddy.
